With this Sunday’s MLS Fantasy deadline edging ever closer, it’s now time to reveal our final differential selections of the season.
There are no second chances after today – our options simply must produce in a one-week scenario, so we’ve turned to three forwards with potentially prosperous home fixtures in the hope they can deliver big hauls to provide a final push.
CHRIS WONDOLOWSKI
For those Fantasy bosses really prepared to roll the dice, San Jose Earthquake’s Chris Wondolowski looks the perfect route on offer.
The Quakes forward is sat in 8.6% of Major League Soccer Fantasy (MLS Fantasy) squads, and crucially, Chris Leitch’s side go into the final day with plenty of motivation, with a victory at home to Minnesota guaranteeing them a play-off spot.
San Jose should also be full of confidence after holding Vancouver Whitecaps 1-1 last weekend, with Wondolowski a key figure in the starting XI.
The US international opened the scoring at BC Place and produced four goal attempts in total, with three arriving from inside the box, while also creating two chances in an effervescent display.
Last weekend’s showing reminded us that, on his day, Wondolowski is an explosive Fantasy asset, with all the tools to hit the double-figure mark.
Wondolowski could also hardly ask for a more favourable match-up to end the season.
No side have conceded eight goals over the last four Gameweeks.
Adrian Heath’s men also have nothing to play for, with their chance of reaching the play-offs well and truly over
Available at 8.6 in MLS Fantasy, Wondolowski looks to tick all the differential boxes. And placing the captain’s armband on the San Jose forward could certainly pay off handsomely should he get the opportunity to build on his display against the The Loons.
ANTHONY JACKSON-HAMEL
At the other end of the price spectrum is Montreal Impact’s Anthony Jackson-Hamel, who sets us back just 5.1.
The Canadian international has been in convincing form of late, scoring 17 points in his last five Gameweeks and enjoys his own favourable match-up at home to New England Revolution.
Tom Soehn’s men came away with a 2-1 home win last time against New York City FC and will be hoping to round off the MLS regular season with some style.
The Impact forward something to prove heading into this final regular season fixture and with nothing to play for but pride, will be looking to end the regular season, on a high.
Jackson-Hamel looks unrivalled as a final-day acquisition for those seeking goals on a budget.
DOMINIQUE BADJI
While Wondowolski and Jackson-Hamel have contrasting outputs heading into Gameweek 33, it’s reputation and a promising away fixture against Seattle that sees Colorado’s Dominique Badji get the nod as our final selection.
The Rapids forward minutes were managed in his last game against Real Salt Lake, 67 minutes in total. Watch out for this. But, the Senegalese international will be looking to round off the season in style, having scored 19 points in the last five Gameweeks.
Taking a chance on the Senegal striker clearly comes packaged with plenty of risk given that his minutes are being managed in the run-up to the close of the regular season. But his pedigree, along with the fact he’s only sat in 7.3% of MLS Fantasy squads, does make him an intriguing option.
Despite a managed minutes issue, Badji is still Colorado’s leading scorer this season with 128 points.
With Badji’s outstanding predatory instincts on offer and Colorado’s dire need for a final day cutting edge, it may be worth taking a gamble on the 6.0-priced forward as the ultimate Gameweek 33 punt.
