Scout Report - Hatem Ben-Arfa

This report surfaced last week, that the Paris St Germain player and French International, Hatem Ben-Arfa could be on his way to Los Angeles FC in the off season.

This is following on from the fact that he is out of favour at PSG, with Unai Emery effectively freezing him out from the time that he landed at PSG from Nice, which everyone touted as being a bad idea.
This would be a surprising move for Ben-Arfa, surprising in the fact that, he is now 30, has been injured a lot, is not too well known in USA soccer circles and would surely command a $7 million/year salary? The Rumour is though, that the French International could be set to become one of Los Angeles Football Clubs first big signings, along with Carlos Vela – report soon, but could also be a target for Orlando City SC.

THE HISTORY

Ben-Arfa started his career with Lyon in 2004 moving up from the Lyon Academy, Ben Arfa would score 7 goals in 64 appearances for Lyon.
From Lyon for the 2008/09 – 2010/11 season, he would move to Marseille, scoring 9 goals in 63 the first ever Champions League winners.
Following a loan move to Newcastle United, Ben Arfa, would officially sign for the Magpies and spend 4 years in England with Newcastle and one on loan with Hull City, which failed miserably and thus he walked out of the Club. Twelve goals in 72 appearances for Newcastle and zero in 8 for Hull, say his time in England come to a close.
Who knew his most successful time was to come? He moved back to France with Nice – with a certain Mario Balotelli also and this started his most prolific time in France and his career. In 34 appearances for Les Aiglons, he would score 17 goals.
The winger / attacking midfielder would move to Les Parisiens in the Summer of 2016 and go “play” for the Capital Club.

THE PROSPECTS

This move could come to pass, as the new franchise in MLS from Los Angeles are going to be bolstering their side over the coming weeks and months of the off-season. But, questions will still remain.
Just like the one’s I have asked at the start of this article, so too does the question of: If possible, would Hatem Ben-Arfa if given the chance move back to Europe?
We will have to wait and see with this possible DP signing for either LAFC or Orlando City.
