Real Salt Lake have exercised the purchase option on Jefferson Savarino, signing the youth Designated Player to a long term contract, following his initial loan spell from Zulia FC in Venezuela.
The 20-year-old will continue to occupy the Youth Designated Player spot on the Real Salt Lake roster from next season. The forward is also up for the AT&T Goal of the Year competition - having scored 6 goals and 5 assists this season. Coach Mike Petke had this to say about the young forward.
"Jefferson was a big part of the reason for the turnaround. What he brings to the field, the dynamic play, his ability to unlock defenses and get forward, the mentality and his ability to combine with Albert and Luis … he has been huge for us," RSL head coach Mike Petke said in a statement provided by the team. "In the long run, I think Jefferson is going to go down as one of the best that we've had."
THE HISTORY
Savarino's footballing journey began at the Zulia FC youth Academy in Venezuela, before he started his professional career with Zulia FC in 2013.
In his four season stint with Zulia, in 132 games, Savarino would score 32 goals. Thus, causing RSL to move for the young forward with a loan deal, before deciding on the permanent transfer.
Jefferson Savarino has so far, made 1 appearance for the Venezuelan National Team.

THE PROSPECTS
With Savarino’s first stint in Salt Lake a resounding success, it’s the fact he has been a consistent goal-scorer with the Club.
A powerful centre forward, Savarino has a big chance of being the secondary striker for Real Salt Lake next season, given the fact that, Real Salt Lake are also looking to offload Yura Movsisyan too.
Capable of both scoring goals and assisting his team-mates, the Venezuelan is adept at linking with team-mates and possesses a powerful shot.
If he can possibly return to the levels reached during his first spell at the Rio Tinto, he could be the ideal man to lead the line for Real Salt Lake next term.
