Team of the Season - Zack Steffen

Following a 169-point campaign for this seasons campaign with Columbus Crew Zack Steffen was not on many people’s watchlists coming into this term. The early adopters were to be proved correct as the Black and Gold’s keeper excelled to deliver another outstanding top-flight season.

Dugout Discussion - Round 32

David Villa is the top scoring striker in MLS Fantasy this season, so it only seems right to reward the 28.5% of managers who gave him the armband. Now it’s over to Nemanja Nikolic to step up.

Captain Poll - Round 32

With just two days until we resume domestic action, we are launching our Captain Poll to find out your views on the top-ranked captaincy candidates for Gameweek 32.

nycfcweb17s-1-web
David Villa (12.3) looks set to dominate our latest poll after scoring an astonishing 233 points for NYCFC and being recalled to the Spanish national side this month also.
Although he is yet to score a double figure haul in the last three games, David Villa is still one of the top strikers in MLS Fantasy and play New England Revolution and Columbus Crew SC. New York City will be looking to round of this seasons campaign on a high and hopefully Villa can bag a double figure in the last two games.

The striker has gathered 28% of MLS Fantasy managers during the season, though those still yet to recruit Villa may instead turn to one of his supporting midfield cast, most notably Jack Harrison (7.8) and the 2.2%-owned Maxi Moralez (9.8).

Harrison sits in 8.8% of sides and is NYCFC’s second top points scoring midfielder on 157 points overall for the season. The Englishman also made his International debut for the England under 21's during this international break.

Villa's Argentine NYCFC team-mate Moralez may also appeal. He has one goal, one clean-sheet and as many assists in the league.

Atlanta United assets look to be Villa’s main rivals this week as they face a Toronto FC side that look to have a play-off birth booked while the southern based MLS team are looking to book a solid space in the post season MLS Cup play-offs.

Hector Villalba (10.5), as Atlanta's main centre-forward in the absence of International duty bound Josef Martinez, should be guaranteed his start against the Red Bulls. But his minutes may be curtailed given that he is just back from International duty with Venezuela. Watch out if you plan to pick him as a differential for your team.

Villalba, who has scored twelve times and registered ten assists in 2017/18, has attracted more than 12% of MLS Fantasy managers over the season.

Martinez's minutes possibly being managed in Atlanta United's next game, also enhances 13.7% owned Miguel Almiron's (10.5) stock, as does the winger’s role as an unused substitute in Paraguay’s dead rubber World Cup qualifier against Venezuela  during the week. During Atlanta's inaugural season in MLS, Sterling has recorded nine goals and topped MLS's list of 24 players under the age of 24, released on September 28.

Yamil Asad (8.8) is another of Martino’s charges to consider. Like Almiron, he should be well rested come the weekend: Asad has been rested over the International break and should be more than ready to fire at the weekend.

The playmaker, is the second highest Atlanta midfield points scorer on the back of 13 assists, more than any other player. He has also accumulated bonus points on four occasions.
Los Angeles Galaxy’s hosting of Minnesota United could reduce interest in Giovani dos Santos (9.8) given the former Tottenham and Barcelona striker’s poor track record in recent outings, 12 points over three games, (DGW included).

Sigi Schmid’s much-maligned defence have underperformed this season. With the Galaxy currently sitting rock bottom of the Western Conference in MLS. They currently have 29 points and this season seems to be going out with a whimper instead of a bang for the Galaxy men.

Both Ibson (7.0) and Kevin Molino (10.4) are having top performing season's for "The Loons" in their inaugural MLS campaign, which has seen Minnesota position ninth in the Western Conference.
Molino’s stock is already in free fall following a run of only 2 goals and one assist in his last five.
This should leave Ibson (7.0) and Ethan Finlay (8.3) as the most popular Loons options; now that International break is over and both Finlay and Ibson have been well rested, both can now concentrate on the end of season run-in for Minnesota United. Go Loons!!!

Moilino’s countryman Cyle Larin (9.2) is among the intriguing differential armband options this week as  beleaguered Orlando City SC  prepare to face Columbus Crew SC.

The Canadian boasts a 10.2% ownership as he and Orlando City SC look to finish off this lack-lustre 2017 MLS campaign with some style. However, he could prosper in our latest poll given that his opponent has already made the MLS Cup play-offs and the prospect that he could be deployed as Orlando’s central attacker over Englishman Dom Dwyer.

Being more than 9% picked by MLS Fantasy managers ahead of Gameweek 32, Nemanja Nikolic (10.6) could be another to garner votes ahead of Philadelphia Union’s visit next Monday. Nikolic has already struck 21 goals this season – which has lead to Chicago Fire making it to the end of season MLS Cup play-offs.

Rate My Team

Capture
Welcome to the first of this season’s Rate My Team Surgeries.
These articles will look at initial MLS Fantasy squads and will be published ahead of Gameweek 32. Each time one of the MLS Scout moderator and contributor team will put forward their selection for scrutiny in order to start the discussion.
The aim is to highlight some of the key concerns we have faced in constructing our squads, which hopefully will chime with other MLS Fantasy managers’ issues.
In addition, we want the comment section to provide a useful opportunity for you to submit your own RMTs. Please also be helpful to those asking for advice. The key to successful rating of teams is to give advice as well.
I have drawn the first straw to start off this series with my balanced 4-3-3 selection.
